Man charged in shooting outside bar
A 38-year-old Bradenton man has been arrested on an attempted murder charge after a shooting outside a Bradenton bar, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a man who will turn 22 on Tuesday was walking in the parking lot of the El Paisano bar, 5803 15th St. E., when witnesses say Mauro Ramirez punched him in the head. According to the sheriff’s office, Ramirez then took a gun from his waistband and fired a shot at the left side of the man’s head.
The victim fled the scene and Ramirez was restrained by an El Paisano security guard. The man was eventually transported to a hospital to be treated. The bullet had gone through his nasal cavity and stopped in his upper right jaw. He is unconscious but stable in the intensive care unit, according to the sheriff’s office.
After Ramirez was placed under arrest, he gave them the fake name “Jose Valdez.”
But fingerprints don’t lie: Ramirez had been convicted of attempted trafficking in cocaine in 2003.
Because Ramirez didn’t want to talk to law enforcement about the incident, they couldn’t establish the relationship between him and the victim. Still, he remains at the Manatee County jail without bond on charges of attempted murder, battery, giving false identification to a law enforcement officer, possession of an altered firearm and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
El Paisano has been connected to many crimes, from robberies to the fatal shootings of Oscar Cortez-Ruiz and Jose Armando Alonzo-Lopez.
