Kickball game at State College of Florida Collegiate School helps benefit area's hungry

Hauling in 23 cans of food, Sandra Salitre won the honor of taking the first swing during a kickball game last week during a State College of Florida Collegiate School matchup, pitting seventh and eighth-grade students against one another. The kickball game, held on Friday before Thanksgiving break, was part of the yearlong initiative by the school charter school¿s seventh graders to help eradicate childhood hunger in the area.

2 shipwrecks located near Manatee County

Being surrounded on three sides by water, it is no wonder that Florida has had its fair share of shipwrecks. In all, 12 shipwreck sites have been named Underwater Archaeological Preserves by the state of Florida. Two local ones include the molasses barge Regina off of Bradenton Beach and U.S.S. Narcissus off of Egmont Key.
