Another 160 COVID-19 cases in Manatee
Manatee County had 160 new cases of people testing positive for the coronavirus, as the state again shattered the daily record by adding 10,109 new cases, according to the latest data released on Thursday by the Florida Department of Health.
Thursday marked the third-highest daily count reported in Manatee County since the start of the pandemic. The highest counts to date were on June 27 with 267 cases and on June 26 with 166 cases.
There have now been 3,175 people in Manatee County who have been infected by the coronavirus. In Manatee, 130 people have died from COVID-19.
Statewide, there have now been 169,106 people who have been infected, and 3,617 have died.
The previous daily high in Florida was 9,585 reported on June 27.
Publix worker tests positive for COVID-19
A Publix associate at the Lockwood Commons supermarket, 4240 53rd Ave. E., has tested positive for COVID-19, a company spokeswoman confirmed Thursday afternoon.
“Unfortunately, as public health officials have indicated, we expect to see an increase in cases as the virus spreads in our communities,” Maria Brous, Publix director of communications, said in an email confirming the diagnosis.
Food pantries in Manatee County
As COVID-19 has ravaged Manatee County and employers have shedded jobs, food security has become a bigger issue for many residents.
Manatee County government has released a list of food pantries in the county where residents can obtain free food and other assistance.
