The latest on the COVID-19 pandemic in Bradenton and Manatee County.
Two more people die in Manatee County
Two more Manatee County residents have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, the Florida Department of Health said Thursday.
The two deaths bring the local death toll to 114.
Also, eight new cases were reported, bringing total number of cases since the outbreak began to 1,253 in Manatee County.
Statewide, there were an additional 1,698 cases reported, the highest reported in a single day since the pandemic began. The state now has a total of 69,069 confirmed cases.
There were also 47 new deaths announced, raising the statewide toll to 2,848.
Masks available for homeless people in Bradenton
The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County delivered 500 cloth masks to Turning Points this week to be distributed to staff, volunteers and the homeless community.
Retiring Turning Points Executive Director Adell Erozer said the donation is important to the agency’s mission of protecting the vulnerable population.
“Working in partnership with the health department, we assist our neighbors in need in becoming healthy, housed and sustainable,” Erozer said. “Distributing face masks to our most vulnerable populations and teaching them the importance of wearing them during the pandemic is done with our shared mission in mind.”
Food pantries in Manatee County
As COVID-19 has ravaged Manatee County and employers have shedded jobs, food security has become a bigger issue for many residents.
Manatee County government this week released a list of food pantries in the county where residents can obtain free food and other assistance.

ORGANIZATIONS OFFERING HELP
Resources are available to help struggling Manatee County residents through the COVID-19 pandemic. Opportunities also exist to support local relief efforts, which are facing a sudden and overwhelming demand.
With all schools closed through May 1, area students might struggle to find their daily lunch, and parents may need child care while they continue working. Other residents are losing work hours or jobs with the restrictions placed on restaurants and bars.
