Some Bradenton workplaces are bucking the trend by hiring during the pandemic
Although more than 900,000 Floridians have filed unemployment assistance claims since the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, some Bradenton area companies are hiring.
Among them are Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, Target, Publix, Dunkin Donuts and Wendy’s, according to CareerSource Suncoast.
Florida’s retail sector partially reopens on Monday, with Bealls and Ellenton Premium Outlets serving walk-in traffic for the first time in more than a month. The Mall at University Town Center follows at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Preliminary hours at the Mall at UTC are 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11-6 on Sunday.
“With reduced operating hours we do expect to utilize our existing associates to reopen,” said Daniel J. Doyle, senior human resources director for Bealls Inc., in an email. “But as we return to normal business hours we may see the need to hire additional staff if some of our associates decide not to return.”
Aside from the retail sector, a wide variety of employers are looking to hire.

“We have full benefits, including full medical and full dental, and we pay very competitive salaries,” Nickse said.
“In the beginning of the pandemic, many active projects were delayed. In the past few weeks we are beginning to see more and more activity. I think that will continue as we begin to see light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
