Discount airline with a new Bradenton route announces even a bigger discount for now
Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines, which inaugurated nonstop service between Tweed-New Haven Airport, Conn., and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport in January, announced Thursday that it is offering a 50% discount on tickets for the route.
Tickets must be purchased at AveloAir.com by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on June 23, using the promo code: HALFOFF. There are no blackout dates on the discount available on travel completed by Nov. 9.
“This significant discount is our way of making travel easier and more affordable amidst skyrocketing inflation,” Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said in statement.
“Our purpose is to inspire travel by helping our customers save money so they can travel more. By offering 50% off our already everyday low fares, we want to help travelers continue to explore exciting destinations, create new memories, and reconnect with family and friends during this economically challenging time,” Levy said.
Avelo, which was the first airline to provide service between SRQ and Connecticut, flies this route four days a week — Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
A second low-fare airline, Breeze Airways, started nonstop service on June 4 to Connecticut, flying between SRQ and Hartford’s Bradley International Airport. Breeze Airways is a new airline, starting service in May 2021.
SRQ, the fastest growing airport in the United States, reported this week that 332,431 passengers traveled through its terminal in May, an increase of 43,880 over May 2021. Passengers traveling through the airport year-to-date totaled 1,803,944 compared to 1,146,782 year-to-date for 2021, an increase of 57%.
Both Southwest and United Airlines showed year-to-date increases of 100% or more compared to the first five months of 2021.
“We continue to see growth as we come into our summer months at SRQ. However, rising fuel prices and pilot and personnel shortages with the airlines nationwide continue so some schedule cutbacks are expected. Therefore, it is recommended you book your travel early to assure you get your desired destinations,” Rick Piccolo, president, CEO of the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, said in statement.
Airlines continue to add service at SRQ with Allegiant Air planning to start nonstop service to Minneapolis (MSP), beginning Oct. 6.
SRQ officials have launched several expansion projects to handle the rapid growth of business at the airport.
