Sarasota Bradenton International Airport adds another nonstop flight to New England area

Breeze Airways plans to start nonstop service on June 4 between Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and Hartford, Connecticut.

The addition of Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) as a destination for SRQ is new, as is Breeze Airways itself, which started service in May 2021.

“We are pleased to welcome a new airline and nonstop destination to the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. The Airbus A220 aircraft that is scheduled to fly nonstop to Hartford, Conn., will provide a premium experience for our customers,” Rick Piccolo, airport president and CEO, said in a press release.

With this addition, SRQ is now served by 11 airlines offering 53 nonstop destinations.

Airport officials have scrambled to keep up with record passenger traffic, which has made SRQ one of the fastest-growing airports in the world.

Breeze Airways, which bills itself as the “Seriously Nice” new U.S. low-fare airline, was founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman. Previously, Neeleman launched start-ups Azul, JetBlue, Westjet and Morris Air.

Breeze Airways also announced Tuesday that it is adding 35 routes this summer from 10 new cities, coast to coast. Breeze, which began service in May, 2021 primarily in the east and southeast of the United States, is now expanding across the U.S. with 77 routes between 28 cities in 18 states.

Breeze has ordered 80 new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with options for 40 more, that will be delivered one per month for six years. The airline will more than double its fleet this year, from 13 Embraer 190 and 195 aircraft to 30 aircraft, including 13 Airbus A220s and four additional Embraer E-jets.

Breeze’s fares start at $39, and there are no change or cancellation fees. Passengers earn credit called “BreezePoints” on all purchases that can be used towards future flights or other ancillary products such as bags and seat assignments.

Guests can change or cancel a flight up to 15 minutes before scheduled departure without penalty. Unused funds from changes and cancellations are automatically saved in the Guest’s Breeze account and do not expire for 24 months, the company said.

Flights are now on sale at https://www.flybreeze.com/home and via the Breeze app.
