Avelo Airlines offers first non-stop service between SRQ and this New England state
Sarasota Bradenton International Airport now has its first non-stop service to Connecticut, provided by a new low-cost carrier, Avelo Airlines.
Avelo and SRQ announced Thursday that service to New Haven, Connecticut, begins Jan. 13 with one-way introductory fares of $49 available at https://www.aveloair.com/.
Avelo will fly Boeing Next Generation 737-700 aircraft three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
New Haven becomes the 51st non-stop destination available from Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, and Avelo Airlines becomes the 11th air carrier serving the airport.
Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of Sarasota Bradenton International, introduced the new service at the “world’s fastest-growing airport” Thursday morning, and credited the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and Visit Sarasota with playing key roles in landing Avelo and New Haven.
“We are thrilled that Avelo Airlines has chosen Sarasota Bradenton International Airport to be part of their air service network. With low fares and convenient nonstop service, passengers will have an affordable connection between two high-demand destinations. We look forward to welcoming Avelo Airlines to SRQ and we’re confident their service will be a great success and expand in the future,” Piccolo said.
A record 2,219,303 passengers have passed through the SRQ terminal so far this calendar year.
“By the time Avelo’s maiden flight connects out two cities, it will be the middle of winter and they will be lining up to visit our area,” said Elliott Falcione, executive director of the of the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Other Florida airports served by Avelo include Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Palm Beach and Tampa.
“We are excited to offer this new, convenient and affordable direct service to Southern Connecticut,” Avelo chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said in a press release. “With our very low fares and HVN’s unmatched convenience, Avelo is making getting to Connecticut and all this region has to offer easier than ever.”
New Haven is the second-largest city in Connecticut, and home to Yale University.
Avelo, which flew its first flights in April, has about 20 locations with hubs in New Haven and Los Angeles/Hollywood Burbank Airport. One of the goals of officials at SRQ has been to offer direct flights to the west coast.
