Good Liquid closes downtown Bradenton restaurant after 6 months. Here’s why
Good Liquid Brewing Co. announced that it has closed its downtown Bradenton location just six months after opening.
Reached for comment Tuesday afternoon, owners Mike and Sandra Krail issued a statement explaining why the Bradenton location at 1008 Fourth Ave. W. was permanently closing as of Monday. The couple cited health complications in the decision to close the restaurant that first opened its doors in March.
“With deep gratitude and heavy hearts, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Good Liquid Brewing Company location in downtown Bradenton,” the statement said.
Sandra Krail shared in the statement that she has a rare, progressive kidney disease and needs a kidney transplant. Her husband Mike is preparing to be a donor for her.
The couple spent about a year renovating the former bank space into a full-fledged restaurant that served food, beer and a wide array of other alcoholic beverages. Good Liquid’s other two locations in the Manatee-Sarasota area will remain open, they said.
The Krails said having three breweries, a distillery and full-scale production facility requires lots of time, energy and dedication. Due to Sandra’s declining health, they realized they did not want to work themselves to exhaustion to miss out on what mattered most to them, according to the statement.
“Anyone who’s lived with or loved someone facing a chronic illness knows how unpredictable and overwhelming each day can be,” the statement said. “And for us, the most important business decision we could make was not about money or growth — it was about love, family and being present while we still can.”
Good Liquid closes downtown Bradenton restaurant
It’s the second time Good Liquid has closed a Bradenton location. The company shuttered its original Bradenton location at the Fountains Plaza on U.S. 41 in 2022 after five years.
The Krails, though, announced a return to Bradenton was in the works in 2024. They also opened a Parrish location that year. The Waterside Place location opened in 2021.
The closing came as a surprise after the business held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in mid-July after being open for about 4 months.
“This new location is more than a brewery — it’s a gathering space for the Bradenton community,” Good Liquid Brewing Company said in a press release to announce the ribbon cutting. “We’re proud to be part of this vibrant neighborhood and can’t wait to share our passion for craft beer and great food with everyone who walks through our doors.”
The restaurant featured a self-serve beer wall — a first for the Good Liquid brand — with a few wines, cocktails and 16 different beers. The restaurant also had two new entrees: a short rib and Cajun pasta.
While the Bradenton location is closed, Good Liquid has two open locations in the area. The Lakewood Ranch Waterside Place location is at 1570 Lakefront Drive, Sarasota. The Creekside Commons location is at 8980 U.S. 301 N, #138, Parrish.
