A new brewery is opening in Lakewood Ranch, and the owners plan 3 distilleries too
Four years after Mike and Sandra Krail opened Good Liquid Brewing Company in downtown Bradenton, they are preparing to open a brewery and restaurant in Lakewood Ranch, with future plans for liquor distilleries.
Their second location opens 4 p.m. Friday in Waterside Place, Lakewood Ranch’s new dining and entertainment district and town center at 1570 Lakefront Drive.
Good Liquid Brewery, specializing in IPAs, lagers, sours and more, follows a core brewing process while adding creative ingredients.
Among the beers they suggest trying are the Mixed Berry Jalapeno Cream Ale, The Fruity Bits Milkshake IPA and the Coconut Key Lime Sour.
Good Liquid is also known for Fruity Pebble Beer, Jalapeno Mango Sour with Ginger, Blackberry Raspberry Marshmallow Sour and Blonde Milk Stout.
The food menu is classic American, including hamburgers, pizzas, steaks, ribs, seafood and homemade desserts. Also, look for more unusual items such as avocado eggrolls, Thai sticky wings and tempura cauliflower. See the full menu at https://www.goodliquidbrewingcompany.com/menu-waterside-place.
Hours of operation during opening week are 4-9 p.m. Once Good Liquid opens for lunch, opening hour will be at 11 a.m. daily.
Liquor distillery planned in Bradenton
In addition to their two breweries, the Krails are also making plans to add distilleries to make spirits, such as rum, vodka, gin and whiskey, near their Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch facilities, as well as on State Street in Sarasota, and a primary production facility for spirits and beer in a new plant off Moccasin Wallow Road in northern Manatee County.
The year 2022 is shaping up to be a very busy one for the Krails. Although schedules are subject to change, they anticipate opening the Lakewood Ranch distillery in May or June, and the Bradenton and Sarasota distilleries in the October to November time frame.
The primary production facility on Moccasin Wallow, estimated at about 12,000 square feet, is probably still 13 to 14 months away, Krail said.
Brewing history in Rock Hill
Mike Krail started home brewing when he was 18, a hobby he pursued for two decades. He later graduated from American Brewers Guild. He he was a partner in developing Legal Remedy Brewing, in Rock Hill, S.C.
While in Rock Hill for two years, he estimates that he brewed more than 80 different beers, including a Krispy Kreme stout, a peanut butter and Captain Crunch beer and a chocolate cake beer, among others.
The Krails opened their first Good Liquid Brewing Co. at 4824 14th. St. W., Bradenton, in 2017.
Good Liquid Brewing is one of the first tenants to open for business in the 36-acre Waterside Place, and faces onto the 6,200-foot Kingfisher Lake.
The building has a modern industrial look with outdoor space for fire pits and games. Diners will be able to see the brewing room through a glass wall.
Waterside Place is at the heart of the new Waterside community, south of University Parkway, and east of Interstate 75 where more than 5,000 homes are planned.
The Lakewood Ranch Farmers Market recently moved to Waterside Place at 1561 Lakefront Drive and is open year-round from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday.
