Three McDonald’s restaurants join list of COVID-19 pandemic closures in Bradenton
McDonald’s Golden Arches will be coming down soon from the walls of three Bradenton area Walmart superstores.
“We have made the difficult decision to close three of our McDonald’s in Walmart restaurants at the end of the month,” Doug and Denise Wheeler, McDonald’s owner/operators, said in a statement.
“We are thankful to our hard-working restaurant team, as well as the Bradenton community for their patronage. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at one of our other McDonald’s restaurants,” the Wheelers said.
The three restaurants closing are at Walmart stores at:
- 6225 S.R. 64 E., near Interstate 75.
- 5315 Cortez Road
- 2911 53rd Ave. E., near U.S. 301.
In an earnings calls on July 28, 2020, with McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski, the company said it was accelerating some restaurant closings previously planned for future years. Of the 200 U.S. closures for the year, more than half are low-volume restaurants in Walmart stores.
Restaurants in stand-along locations with drive-thrus were faring better during the COVID-19 pandemic than those in Walmarts and malls.
