Former Manatee wide receiver Tarique Milton officially enrolls at Iowa State

Tarique Milton, the lone member of Manatee County’s Class of 2017 to commit to a Power 5 conference school, is officially set to play his freshman year at Iowa State. The former Manatee High School wide receiver, who was the Herald’s All-Area Offensive Player of the Year during the fall, has moved to Ames, Iowa, from Bradenton and is enrolled at ISU.

Milton’s name now appears in the school’s online directory, where he is listed as a freshman with a pre-business major. Milton moved in at the school earlier this week, he said Friday, and is set to join the Cyclones when they begin their preseason camp next week.

“I’m excited,” Milton said.

The wideout, who became the Hurricanes’ first receiver with more than 1,000 yards in a season since Quenton Bundrage, committed to Iowa State as part of a National Signing Day ceremony in February, but wasn’t announced as part of the class by the Cyclones when they released the names of their signees at the end of the day. A problem with his transcript meant he wouldn’t be able to sign with ISU until later during the summer, and he was unable to work out with his new team during offseason workouts.

Milton is not listed on the team roster displayed on Iowa State’s official athletic website. However, the roster was most recently updated at the start of July, an update which included former Canes running back Johnnie Lang.

“I don’t know what the hold up was,” Milton said, “but it finally got cleared.”

Milton finished his high school career as a three-star recruit, according to 247sports.com’s composite rankings. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound former Hurricane chose the Cyclones over a final list which included Louisville, Michigan, South Florida and Central Florida. As a senior, Milton caught 64 passes for 1,087 yards and 17 touchdowns, and ran the ball 26 times for 240 yards and four touchdowns. He and Lang both follow in the footsteps of Bundrage, who played at ISU from 2011-2015 before briefly playing for the Texans.
