Hurricane Helene 2024
Hurricane Helene is projected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and possible floods to Manatee County and Florida’s Big Bend region. Forecasts, as of September 25, project Helene will strike Florida Thursday evening, September 26, and head north through parts of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina into Friday.

Manatee County school district officials announced that schools will remain closed until Monday due to Hurricane Helene.
District officials said the county opened three school shelters for residents who live in mandatory evacuation zones. The county also prepared two other district sites for emergency responders from other agencies.
Sports and after-school activities are canceled for Friday. Many of those events will be rescheduled for Saturday, district officials said in a news release.
High school principals will decide whether to hold voluntary sports practices around 3 p.m. Friday, district officials said.
