Hurricane Helene is projected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and possible floods to Manatee County and Florida’s Big Bend region. Forecasts, as of September 25, project Helene will strike Florida Thursday evening, September 26, and head north through parts of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina into Friday.

Hurricane Helene is barreling toward Florida as a Category 3 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It’s expected to make landfall in the Big Bend region by Thursday night as a major hurricane, according to the latest forecast update.

As Helene churns through the Gulf of Mexico, its effects have already started in Manatee County.
