A man was followed by his wife’s boyfriend, beaten with a wooden board and then fatally run over by a passing driver, Texas police told news outlets.

The boyfriend, 35-year-old Juan Miguel Ibarra Armenta, was arrested on a charge of manslaughter, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said, MyRGV.com reported.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, about a man lying on a rural road near Mission, later identified as 31-year-old Christian Castillo, according to the station. He was pronounced dead.

According to deputies, witnesses reported seeing a Chevrolet HHR — Castillo’s wife’s car — following Castillo, then two men getting out and one attacking him, the station reported.

Deputies said one of the men repeatedly hit Castillo with a wooden board, KVEO reported. Castillo collapsed onto the road and was hit by a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, which wasn’t involved in the assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the truck left the scene without stopping, deputies told the outlet.

Earlier on the evening of the attack, Castillo’s wife filed an assault report against her husband, KRGV reported.

Deputies identified the second man who was with Ibarra Armenta and accused of attacking Castillo, the outlet reported. As of the morning of Sept. 23, only Ibarra Armenta has been arrested, but deputies said more arrests are expected.

Mission is a roughly 250-mile drive south from San Antonio.
