Woman’s ‘brutal’ beating stops when friend guns down her ex, Texas cops say
A man was shot to death while beating his ex-girlfriend outside her Texas home, police told news outlets.
The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, on Houston’s northeast side, police told KPRC.
According to police, the woman’s ex-boyfriend was coming to the home to pick up some belongings, so she asked a male friend to be there in case her ex became violent, KRIV reported.
Her worries came true, police said, as her ex began assaulting her after arriving, first beating her inside the home while two children slept upstairs, then continuing to hit her outside, the outlet reported.
When the woman’s friend tried to stop him, the ex attacked him too, police told KPRC. He grabbed a gun from his truck and returned to confront the ex, demanding he stop hitting the woman, who was now on the ground and losing consciousness, police said.
The ex wouldn’t stop, and the friend hit him with a handgun, then shot him multiple times, killing him, police told the station.
The beating of the woman was “brutal,” police said, and despite the violence, the children inside the home apparently never woke up, KHOU reported.
Investigators said the woman’s friend left the scene but was taken into custody on Houston’s west side, according to the outlet. No charges have been brought against him, but police said they might as the investigation continues.
