A teenager and her father are dead after police say the girl’s boyfriend gunned them down at a city park in Texas.

The shooting happened on the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 1, at Hugh Camp Park in Liberty City, the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Liberty City is about a 120-mile drive southeast from Dallas.

Christopher Wayne Hicks Jr. shot Hailey Blake, 16, and her dad, 49-year-old Shawn Glen Blake, killing them in a “targeted attack,” the sheriff’s office said.

There were two off-duty first responders already at the park at the time of the shooting who attempted life-saving measures, officials said.

Hicks was taken to a hospital with “life-threatening injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted,” deputies said.

Officials didn’t say what may have motivated the killings.

Hailey Blake was a student at Sabine High School, KLTV reported.

In a Facebook post, the school district said it is “saddened” by the loss of a student, and counselors will be available on campus.
