A man accused of breaking into a home was chased down and handcuffed by a Texas family, according to police and news outlets.

Jhon Carabali-Gomez, 28, is accused of forcing his way into an apartment on Houston’s west side in the late afternoon Sunday, Nov. 17 — while a 15-year-old was inside, court records show.

Gomez was also armed with a screwdriver at the time, which he used as a weapon, according to police.

McClatchy News reached out to the attorney listed for Gomez on Nov. 20 but did not immediately hear back.

There were no adults at the apartment during the break-in, Edward Brady told KTRK, adding that his brother just moved in the day before, on Saturday, and he had been helping him get settled in.

Brady said his cousins and his brother’s kids, all children, were confronted by Gomez, the station reported. As he approached them, Brady said Gomez asked his 15-year-old cousin, “Do you got a boyfriend?”

“He’s telling the kids, the little babies, to ‘come here’ like he knew them. ‘Come here. Come to me,’” Brady said. His cousin ran into another room with the children and locked the door, he told the outlet.

She then called for help, court documents say. Brady, who works as a security guard at the apartment complex, called a friend, and they made their way to the apartment.

Brady and his friend spotted Gomez outside the apartment, according to investigators. They chased after Gomez, and he tried to stab them with a screwdriver, documents say. Then Brady’s brother arrived, and “all three (men) corral and handcuff” Gomez.

“When he turned to run, he tackled him. Boom. And that’s how we got him,” Brady told KTRK. “I handcuffed him. We waited until 911 came.”

Gomez later appeared in court bandaged and bruised, KTRK video shows.

Court records show Gomez is a Colombian national.

He’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one county of burglary of habitation, records show.

His bond is set at $150,000. However, Immigration and Naturalization Services has placed a hold on Gomez, citing “immigration violation.”
