Teen tells man they ‘cannot be together,’ then he fatally shoots her friend, WI cops say
A Wisconsin man is accused of fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy while he was waiting for the school bus with a friend, investigators say and news outlets report.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 18-year-old Christian Martin, of Milwaukee, as of Nov. 11, Milwaukee County court records show.
He’s charged with intentional homicide and use of a dangerous weapon.
The warrant comes two weeks after Martin is accused of shooting a teenager in the head on the morning of Oct. 28 at a school bus stop on the city’s southwest side, according to a criminal complaint, WITI reported.
Nelson Manuel Lopez-Correa was taken to a hospital but died three days later, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
“He was a very kind kid,” his father, Jose Lopez, told the Journal Sentinel. “He was really loved by a lot of people.”
Lopez says his son had started spending time with a girl, adding they were close friends or possibly dating, the newspaper reported. He was walking to the bus stop with the girl and another male friend when they noticed a nearby man in a ski mask, whom police later identified as Martin.
Martin started walking behind them, following the group, and got close enough that the girl told police she could hear him repeatedly mumbling Lopez-Correa’s name under his breath, WITI reported. At one point, Martin grabbed the girl and punched her in the side, according to the station, citing the complaint.
She told investigators she met Martin in July and that they had been together until recently, when she ended the relationship due to their age difference, the Journal Sentinel reported. Investigators did not share the girl’s age.
As she and Lopez-Correa waited for the bus, she told Martin that they “cannot be together,” she told police, the outlet reported.
Investigators say Martin was standing just a few feet away from the teenagers when he pulled out a gun and shot Lopez-Correa in the head, WITI reported.
A home’s security camera captured the shooting and Martin fleeing the scene, TMJ4 reported.
The girl ran to a friend’s house to call her mother, telling police she didn’t know what else to do, WITI reported.
Police found out about the shooting when an officer patrolling the area noticed a large crowd gathered near the street, surrounding Lopez-Correa, according to the outlet.
Though a warrant has been issued for Martin’s arrest, court records show he hasn’t been taken into custody as of Tuesday, Nov. 12.
