Bradenton man’s SUV hydroplaned into 18-wheeler on I-75 in Sarasota, Florida troopers say
A Bradenton man hydroplaned his SUV into an 18-wheeler on Interstate 75 on Tuesday morning, causing the semi to roll over, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.
The accident happened at 7:53 a.m. on I-75 within near mile marker 172, about 2 miles north of Kings Highway in Sarasota.
The 43-year-old man from Bradenton was driving his SUV north on I-75 in the inside lane, approaching Mile Marker 172, while a 61-year-old man from Lehigh Acres was driving in the same direction in the outside lane.
According to FHP, the 43-year-old’s SUV hydroplaned on the wet roadway. His SUV traveled across all three lanes of traffic before hitting the right side of the semi-truck.
The impact caused the semitrailer to hit the guardrail on the east shoulder of I-75 before overturning onto its right side. The semi-truck stopped in the northbound travel lanes and shoulder, the release said
According to the press statement, the SUV came to a stop on the west side guardrail.
Both men walked away from the crash with minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
