A number of Schools in Manatee and Sarasota counties plan to resume classes on Monday while others remain closed until further notice.
Schools are still evaluating the damage caused by Hurricane Ian, according to the most recent report Friday from the schools’ social media accounts and websites.

Grade schools
▪ School District of Manatee County closed through Monday, Oct. 3, and will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 4.
▪ Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School classes will resume on Monday, Oct. 3,the school announced on its website
▪ Bradenton Christian School classes will resume on Monday, Oct. 3.
▪ Inspiration Academy will be closed from Tuesday to Friday.
▪ IMG Academy will shift students to e-learning from Tuesday to Thursday. Sports and Athletic & Personal Development classes will be canceled Wednesday and Thursday. Parents Weekend and Homecoming has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
▪ In Sarasota County schools will be closed Monday and until further notice. “Once damage assessments are made, the school district will make further adjustments to the school reopening timeline to ensure a safe return to school.”
▪ The Diocese of Venice Department of Education announced that all schools, including Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School and St. Joseph Catholic School, would be closed on Monday. Parents should be informed that the principals of those schools will be the ones to decide when the schools will reopen.
Colleges and universities
▪ The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus said classes have been canceled from Tuesday to Thursday. The campus expects to resume operations Monday, Oct. 3.
▪ New College of Florida announced its campus will reopen Saturday, Oct. 1, and classes will resume Tuesday, Oct. 4.
▪ Keiser University campuses in Sarasota, Tampa, Clearwater, New Port Richey, and Lakeland will be opened on Saturday, Oct. 1 as well. Classes will resume on Monday, Oct. 3. The Fort Myers campus is still without running water and bathrooms are out of order.
