Manatee deputies target drunk drivers with DUI patrol. How many did they arrest?

A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office DUI saturation patrol resulted in five arrests for impaired driving on Friday, according to the agency.

The sheriff’s office Traffic Unit conducted the patrol as part of ongoing efforts combat drunk driving on local roads.

Deputies arrested five drivers on DUI charges and tested one additional driver during the operation, according to a news release.

In addition to the DUI arrests, deputies said they issued one criminal summons, 41 traffic citations and 13 written warnings.

Deputies plan DUI patrol for Fourth of July weekend

The sheriff’s office regularly conducts DUI saturation patrols throughout the county. During the agency’s previous saturation patrol at the beginning of the month, deputies arrested three drivers for impaired driving, issued three criminal traffic summonses, 51 civil citations and 40 warnings during the operation.

The next DUI saturation patrol is scheduled for Friday ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

“As the Independence Day holiday weekend approaches, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly. If your plans include alcohol, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange for a safe ride home. Making responsible choices helps keep our roads safe for everyone,” the sheriff’s office said in a written statement.
