Bradenton man went to Sarasota Publix. He left with $5 million Florida Lottery prize
A Bradenton man is millions of dollars richer after he won a top prize on a Florida Lottery scratch-off game.
Corday Hamilton, 31, bought a “Gold Rush Limited” scratch-off ticket from the Publix at 501 North Beneva Road in Sarasota, the Florida Lottery said in a news release Monday.
The ticket revealed a worth of $5 million. Hamilton chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,960,000.
The “Gold Rush Limited” game launched in September 2021 and costs $20 a play. The Manatee County resident claimed one of 32 top prizes worth $5 million; 11 now remain.
Odds of repeating Hamilton’s feat on the scratch-off are 1 in 2,362,500, according to the Florida Lottery. Overall odds of winning something from the scratch-off are 1 in 2.65.
The game offers prizes ranging from $20 to $5 million, including 100 prizes worth $1 million.
Other lottery winners
The Publix location will receive a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket, the Florida Lottery said.
A portion of the proceeds from lottery games fund statewide education initiatives in Florida, including the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
Other recently lucky locals include a Sarasota resident who won $1 million in January, a $2 million Bradenton winner and a $1 million Palmetto winner in December.
