Palmetto woman strikes gold on Florida Lottery game with $1 million prize

A lucky Palmetto woman struck gold of sorts when she recently won big on a Florida Lottery scratch-off game.

She bought a lucky “Gold Rush Limited” scratch-off ticket at the Publix at 9520 Buffalo Road in Palmetto, the Florida Lottery said in a news release Wednesday.

At $20 a play, the Gold Rush scratch-off is one of the pricier Florida Lottery games (games range from $1-$50), but it paid off big for the woman, who claimed a $1 million prize.

Her lottery haul is one of 100 prizes of $1 million that were up for grabs in the scratch-off game, which launched in September 2021; 48 now remain.

The game’s top prize is $5 million; 16 of 32 top prizes have been paid out.

Odds of winning the price of the ticket back are 1-in-4, according to the Florida Lottery website, while odds of the Palmetto winner’s $1 million feat are 1-in-756,000.

She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $795,000, the Florida Lottery said.

The Publix store that sold the ticket will earn a $2,000 commission.

“...Since inception, Scratch-Off games have generated more than $17.06 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund,” the Florida Lottery release said.
