Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story reported incorrectly that the man had died. He had not and is still alive and hospitalized. The Bradenton Herald apologizes for this error.

A man from Ruskin is in critical condition after being thrown from his motorcycle while riding around a curved road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened Thursday at 4:25 p.m and the man was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The 19-year-old was traveling in the left lane on U.S. 41, south of 45th Street East in Palmetto.

He was riding at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, troopers said.

His motorcycle drove off the road, into a grass median and flipped over several times. The man was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash is under investigation.
