Have you seen Jabez Spann? Police are offering $6K reward.
Law enforcement is now offering a reward of $6,000 for information that leads to the whereabouts of a Sarasota teenager who has been missing since Labor Day.
Jabez Spann, 14, was last seen on Sept. 4 in the area of 1500 23rd St., Sarasota, while he was at a Labor Day barbecue with his family.
The following day, his mother reported him missing to police.
On Sept. 18, a Florida missing child alert was issued for Jabez by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement because two weeks had passed and Hurricane Irma had affected the area.
On Friday night, the Sarasota Police Department announced that a reward of $6,000 was being offered by the department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for information leading to the whereabouts of Jabez.
Anyone with information is asked to call the tip line at 941-366-8477 (TIPS) or 941-316-1201.
Jabez is 5-foot-9, weighs about 120 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt.
Police have searched areas in Sarasota and most recently in northern Manatee County for Jabez.
Prior to Hurricane Irma, a reverse 911 call was also conducted in northern Sarasota to elicit information.
“None of our tips have been panning out,” Sarasota police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge said Friday night. “We really still believe that somebody knows something.”
The Florida Outdoor Advertising Association is also donating digital billboard space in Sarasota County, police announced Friday night.
An AMBER Alert has not been issued because police do not have any evidence that Jabez was abducted, one of the criteria required to issue the alert.
Earlier this week, the boy’s family made a public plea to the community to help them find Jabez.
“I just want to say I know somebody out there knows what happened to Jabez,” Lucia Tillery, Jabez’s grandmother, said through tears. “We love Jabez. All we want is for anyone who knows anything, just give him back to us. We just want him back. This could be anybody’s child. I’m begging, pleading just bring him back home.”
