Cheating husband is charged with killing man his wife made up affair with. But he shouldn’t have had a gun, cops say.
Derrick Frazier, who detectives say shot Dequan Randolph after his wife made up an affair with Randolph because he refused to stop cheating, shouldn’t have been in possession of a firearm.
Frazier, 32, now faces an additional felony charge as a result.
On Friday, Frazier was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remains in custody at the Manatee County jail and is being held without bond on the second-degree murder charge.
At about 6 a.m. Nov. 3, police were called to the 1100 block of Fifth Street West in Bradenton to reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find Dequan Randolph dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Two eyewitnesses, including Frazier’s wife, were able to tell police when they arrived that Frazier had driven past and was them talking to Randolph, the lead homicide detective has testified in court. He pulled up in the pickup he was driving, put a gun up to Randolph’s chest and fired, and then got back in the truck and drove off.
As a result of the suspect being immediately identified, police were able to issue an alert for Frazier and the Ford pickup truck he was driving. Within three hours of the shooting, he was in custody and being questioned by detectives with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigative Unit.
Frazier’s felony convictions include possession of a controlled substance for cocaine, possession of a controlled substance for ecstasy and sale or delivery of cocaine, according to court records.
