Bakery’s new home is ready for Thanksgiving.  It is about more than breads and sweets

Eli Pavelski, owner of Edible Elegance by Eli, started her day early, baking cakes, then moving on to cookies, and then pies, “because it’s Thanksgiving.”

Pavelski recently moved her business from Manatee Avenue West, near Shake Pit, to 3985 Cortez Road W., next door to Table Talk SRQ, a board game cafe.

Pavelski bakes custom orders for special events, buffets and more, and is planning a series of baking classes.

She also welcomes walk-in customers, like Maureen Aucoin, who stopped by the bakery for the first time Thursday.

“We need a bakery big time around here,” Aucoin said, adding that she enjoys buying freshly made cakes and breads and loves the smell of pastry in the oven.

At her previous location, Pavelski primarily operated a custom order business. Now she has more room and has added a counter up front to serve walk-in customers.

“We do dessert setups for parties and buffets, sweets tables. We will start doing some classes and have some fun night things. Bring friends, a bottle of wine and let’s decorate a cake,” she said. “We have several events on the calendar now, including a night couples can make gingerbread houses. We also have a great cookie decorator coming in for a class on Dec. 6.”

Before going into business, Pavelski had cooked and baked for many years.

“A friend asked me for help with a cake for her boyfriend. It was so much fun that it took off from there,” she said of her decision to go into business. “Everything I do is self taught over about 11 years.”

Pavelski has traditionally focused on event planning, including birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers, and weddings.

“The only limit to our desserts is your imagination,” according to the Edible Elegance by Eli web site. “For your wedding look no further than our services! Anything you dream of can be brought to life on your cake; any topper, color, design, and decoration can be done by us!”

Edible Elegance by Eli is open 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. After Thanksgiving, those hours will be extended to 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
