Nancy’s again offering barbecue on Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street

In July, when Nancy Krohngold opened Nancy’s Bar-B-Q at 14475 State Road 70 E., she closed her original Lakewood Ranch restaurant on Main Street.

But she promised that the original Ranch Nancy’s would live on as a grab-and-go operation.

She kept that promise, recently reopening the eatery at 8141 Lakewood Main Street, Unit 104, as Nancy’s Pantry Grab and Go Cold Market.

It is strictly a grab-and-go operation, where customers walk-in, select their food -- sandwich, salad, desert, and drink -- and pay at the front counter.

What you won’t see are tables and chairs in Nancy’s Pantry.

“I didn’t want it to become a restaurant. Grab and go is huge everywhere. Even Publix is doing it,” Krohngold said.

Nancy’s Pantry is geared for someone looking for a prepackaged meal that they can take back to work or take home at night.

“It’s an extension of what we’re doing in the restaurants, based on the barbecue menu, but packaged cold,” Krohngold said. “It appears that the star of the menu is a six-ounce sliced brisket sandwich we’re selling with our horse radish sauce and caramelized onions on the side. People are loving it,” she said.

“The idea is to offer the convenience of barbecue that is ready-to-eat,” she said.

Krohngold opened her second Nancy’s Bar-B-Q on Lakewood Main Street in 2016, and from the start felt the warm welcome from the community.

But the Main Street location proved too small, lacking room for her smokers. Working with LWR Commercial, she eventually settled on a new location on the northwest corner of Lorraine Road and State Road 70 with room for barbecue smokers, a full bar, and seating for 150. After months of preparation, she moved her Lakewood Ranch restaurant operation to the new location in July.

The original Nancy’s Bar-B-Q, what Krohngold calls her flagship store, opened in 2011, and is still in operation at 301 S. Pineapple Ave. in downtown Sarasota.

Li’l Nancy’s is open 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information about Nancy’s Pantry, call 941-362-2833.
