Four Marauders named South Division All-Stars
The Florida State League All-Star Game takes place next week, and four Bradenton Marauders are representing the South Division team.
Taylor Gushue, Luis Heredia, Connor Joe and Kevin Newman picked up mid-season All-Star honors.
Gushue leads FSL catchers with five home runs and is second among league backstops with a .406 slugging percentage. Heredia has a career-low 0.70 earned run average, while limiting opponents to a .170 batting average, which ranks in the top five for FSL relievers.
Joe, a third baseman, has 10 doubles, 26 runs scored and 64 total bases. Newman tops the FSL with a .346 batting average and .414 on-base percentage. The shortstop is also the 11th-best prospect in the Pirates organization, according to MLB.com. He won’t participate in the All-Star Game after an orbital fracture has left him on the seven-day disabled list.
The FSL All-Star Game will take place at 7:05 p.m. on June 18 at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. Tickets are available online at miraclebaseball.com and include admission to the Home Run Derby, which will start at 5:15 p.m.
