Lakewood Ranch High gets girls and boys lacrosse
Lakewood Ranch High is getting lacrosse.
Shortly after Manatee High received school board approval to have lacrosse as a high school sport for the 2018 spring season, the Mustangs followed suit to become the second Manatee County public school to get the sport.
Lakewood Ranch High lacrosse fundraising director Phyllis Morales said the process that started in April has paid off.
“We are really, really excited,” Morales said.
Morales’ husband Jason, a physical education teacher at Lakewood Ranch’s Robert E. Willis Elementary, will be the boys head coach. Sammy Stoltz, a social studies teacher at Lakewood Ranch High, will be the girls head coach.
The Mustangs will compete as an independent for one season before joining a Florida High School Athletic Association district.
Once-a-week offseason conditioning has started for both programs – the girls meet from 2:45-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, while the boys meet from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For more information on the girls team, contact Stoltz at stoltz2s@manateeschools.net; for more information on the boys team, contact Jason Morales at moralesj@manateeschools.net.
