Bayshore’s Miriam Schmoll is the softball player of the year

Miriam Schmoll, Senior, Bayshore

To her credit: The right-handed pitcher capped her high school career with another superb season to capture a third All-Area Player of the Year award. She produced a miniscule 0.27 ERA, while striking out 204 batters in 104 innings. Among her 16 complete games, Schmoll logged 11 shutouts, six no-hitters and five perfect games. Schmoll, a University of South Florida signee, also delivered from the plate with a .660/.719/1.094 slash line that included three home runs, two triples and 10 doubles.

All-Area team

Sarah Crawford, senior, Braden River

A catcher, the University of Alabama-Birmingham signee hit 10 home runs while producing a .473 average, 33 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.

Avery Goelz, freshman, Lakewood Ranch

The first baseman led Class 8A in home runs with 11 and runs scored with 43, while producing a .552/.631/1.115 slash line and swiping 14 bases. Verbally committed to play at the University of Florida.

Myah Moy, senior, Braden River

The second baseman hit .545 with eight homers, 32 RBIs, eight doubles, five triples and a .560 OBP, and is signed with Rutgers.

Kinsey Goelz, senior, Lakewood Ranch

A shortstop, Goelz hit .400, scored 26 runs, hit four homers and committed only one error in more than 70 chances.

Maddie Ramirez, senior, Bayshore

The third baseman hit .630 with two doubles and two triples.

Denali Schappacher, senior, Lakewood Ranch

An outfielder, the University of Central Florida signee hit .413 and stole a Class 8A-best 34 bases while scoring 38 runs and reaching base at a .491 clip.

Emma Anthony, freshman, Braden River

The Pirates’ second-leading hitter with a .485 average, six homers, eight doubles and one triple. The outfielder also played third base and produced a .558 OBP.

Mackenzie Meyer, senior, Lakewood Ranch

The outfielder is signed with Princeton. Meyer hit .326 with three homers, 14 RBIs, six doubles and 15 runs scored.

Logan Newton, senior, Lakewood Ranch

The pitcher posted a 0.43 ERA while striking out 147 batters against 24 walks in 114 1/3 innings. Also hit .485 with five homers, 34 RBIs, a .505 OBP and .727 SLG. She’s signed with James Madison.

Ali Yawn, senior, Braden River

Yawn finished with a .437 average and 12 RBIs at the plate and posted a 2.23 ERA with 46 Ks in 75 IP and an 11-3 record from the circle.
