In preparation for upcoming interim committee meetings, the Florida Senate has announced its makeup for the 2018 legislative session with eight committee assignments each for Sens. Bill Gavano, R-Bradenton, and Greg Steube, R-Sarasota.

The committees’ compositions, including leadership, were announced by Senate President Joe Negron on Tuesday in a news release.

“In the era of term limits, I believe it is important for each senator to be considered for the opportunity to participate in the committee process based on demonstrated competence, expertise and interest,” Negron said in the release. “I also expanded the size of many committees to reflect the necessity of maintaining quorums, particularly given the new requirement that senators present their own bills before committees.”

Galvano, who is slated to be Senate president in 2018-2020 was assigned to serve on the following committees: Education; Governmental Oversight and Accountability; Transportation; Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation; Tourism and Economic Development; Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education; Rules; Appropriations; and Joint Legislative Budget Commission.

Steube, R-Sarasota, was assigned to serve on the following committees: Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight; Children, Families and Elder Affairs; Banking and Insurance; Judiciary; Appropriations Subcommittee on Pre-K thru12 Education; Regulated Industries Agriculture and Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance and Tax.

“I look forward to seeing each of you during the September interim committee week,” Negron said.
