Deputies identify Sarasota man’s body found in wooded area

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office identified the man found in a wooded area near Colonial Drive and New England Street on Saturday as 31-year-old Simon Montiel of Sarasota, according to a press release.

Deputies are continuing the investigation.

Around 2:07 p.m. Aug. 20, deputies responded to a citizen call of a decomposed body in the area.

Detectives believe the death may have resulted from a drug overdose, but the official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
