MANATEE -- A 32-year-old Bradenton man died early Friday after he was found shot in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Linzell Feagin Jr. was found with a gunshot wound when deputies were called to RaceTrac at 1730 U.S. 41 in Palmetto at 1 a.m., according to a release. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
Detectives with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Homicide Investigative Unit have been working to piece together what happened.
"We don't know a motive," Bristow said. "We certainly don't think this was random."
Before Feagin was shot, detectives learned he had been in a car with someone and they picked up a third person, then drove the 2100 block of Third Avenue East in Palmetto.
"The victim got out of the car out momentarily," Bristow said.
The third person got out as well, and Feagin was shot as he was about to get back in the car.
Feagin was taken to RaceTrac where he was tended to by paramedics and law enforcement, Bristow said.
Feagin had four stints in Florida prisons since 2001, finishing his most recent sentence in November 2014 for fraudulently renting property. His prior convictions were battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, escape, attempted burglary of an occupied structure, grand theft, trafficking in stolen property and giving false information to a pawn broker.
His listed address at the
time of his release from prison was the Salvation Army, 1204 14th St. W., Bradenton. This is the ninth homicide of the year in Manatee County, and the first since Jan. 31.
