January ends with eight homicides in Manatee County
Eight people were victims of homicide in Manatee County in January.
Here's a look back at the cases:
Jan. 1: Early on New Year's Day, Demetrius Robinson and his girlfriend Florence Randall were found shot to death in their apartment in the 5700 block of 11th Street East. No arrests have been made, but the Manatee County Sheriff's Office says it appears the victims had been targeted.
Jan. 1: Early on the afternoon of New Year's Day, Julio Tellez was shot to death in the 500 block of 60th Avenue Terrace West. One other person was injured in an apparent shootout. No arrests have been made.
Jan. 19: Karl Tuxford was shot to death in the 1100 block of Eighth Avenue East in Bradenton; and shortly afterward the body of Jordan Finlon was found stabbed to death off Bishop Harbor Road. Investigators said the two were killed in apparent revenge for stealing money from the suspect, Dwayne Cummings, who faces two charges each of murder and armed kidnapping.
Jan. 23: During what investigators said was a drug deal gone bad, Charles Lehnert was shot to death in the parking lot of a business in the 5700 block of 15th Street East. On Monday, Tallahassee police arrested Daniel Lee Mann and James Michael Hardy, and they were returned to Manatee County to face murder charges. A detective testified in court last week that Mann had admitted to shooting Lehnert while Hardy held him down.
Jan. 26: Near a homeless camp off the 4700 block of 15th Street East in Bradenton, sheriff's deputies found the body of Kevin House, who had been bludgeoned with a concrete block and stabbed numerous times. Michael Morico, who deputies said had gotten into a fight with House, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Jan. 31: Collin Mahoney was found shot to death in a boarded-up house in the 500 block of 12th Street Drive West in Palmetto. No arrests have been made.
