Tampa child dies after shooting himself, police say

TAMPA The 4-year-old child that found a gun in an east Tampa home and shot himself has died.

According to Tampa police, Ashton Gooding died at Tampa General Hospital late Sunday.

Police responded to 1020 E. Hannah Ave. just before 6 p.m. to calls of a child shot. Police said the child found the loaded gun in the home and the gun went off, injuring the child.

The child was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The State Attorney's Office is reviewing the facts of the case and in coordination with the Tampa Police Department will determine if charges will be brought.
