A teenager was killed in a drive-by shooting Monday night in Lakeland.

The incident happened about 7:45 p.m. in the area of Lebanon Road and Tennessee Road.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said a Cadillac drove past a house several times and fired shots.

Andrew Castillo, 17, was shot and killed, authorities said.

Someone in the house shot back at the vehicle, hitting two people inside, according to investigators.

Judd said it was the second time Castillo was involved in a shooting. In 2011, he was paralyzed in a drive-by shooting that killed his brother.

“The drive-by shooting was intended for his brother, and one of the rounds hit him,” Judd said of the 2011 incident. “He was only 11 at the time. That paralyzed him.”

“And now you fast forward a very few years, and he’s killed in still another drive-by shooting. That’s pretty remarkable for all the wrong reasons. To be shot twice in two gang-related shootings – at 11 you’re paralyzed, at 17 you’re killed – it’s horrific.”

Judd said one person who was shot in the car is still in the hospital.

The case is still under investigation.
