1 dead, 2 hurt in Interstate 75 crash

One person died and two others were injured after they were thrown from a truck that overturned off Interstate 75 in Sarasota County early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was hauling another vehicle on a car dolly behind it in the right northbound lane of I-75 near mile marker 206 shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.

The truck went off the right side of the interstate onto the grass shoulder and overturned, according to FHP.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies were the first on the scene of the crash and told troopers all three people inside the vehicle were thrown from the truck. FHP’s crash report noted none of the people in the truck were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the truck died in the crash. That person has not yet been identified by FHP, pending notification of family.

A 23-year-old Cocoa man who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries while another passenger, a 26-year-old Rockledge man, was critically injured. Both men were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
