A three-vehicle crash closed a Sarasota intersection and the North Bridge to Siesta Key for several hours Wednesday night. Four men were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A bridge to Siesta Key was closed for about three hours after a three-vehicle crash nearby Wednesday evening.

Sarasota Police are investigating a crash at the intersection of Faubel Street and Higel Avenue that occurred around 7 p.m. and resulted in serious injuries, according to Genevieve Judge, communications coordinator for the department.

The intersection and the North Bridge were reopened shortly after 10 p.m.

Four men were injured in the crash and were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as trauma alerts, Judge said in a press conference live-streamed to the department’s Facebook page. Due to the injuries, officials have not been able to speak to those involved in the crash.

Judge said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, though the investigation is ongoing.

The crash closed the North Bridge to Siesta Key for about three hours and drivers were rerouted to the South Bridge until it was reopened later that night.

The crash was originally reported as a four-vehicle crash in a release from police, however a later update revealed there were three vehicles involved.
