Man’s body discovered in car at Wal-Mart. He may have been there two days.
The Bradenton Police Department is investigating a man’s death after his body was found inside a car in front of Wal-Mart.
Just before noon Friday, police were called to the parking lot of Wal-Mart at 5315 Cortez Road W., after a man’s body was spotted inside a white Dodge Durango.
“It doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” Capt. William Fowler said.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, appeared to have died from natural causes, based on the preliminary investigation, according to Fowler.
“We are trying to determine what course of action we need to take, how far we need to go into the investigation. Right now the investigators are trying to notify next of kin,” Fowler said.
Investigators wore masks as they tried to process the evidence at the scene, but the overwhelming odor could be smelled from about 50 feet away. Tarps were hung in an attempt to shield the body from shoppers and passersby, some of whom attempted to take photos of the man’s body.
The man appeared to have been dead for at least two days before he was found, Fowler said.
Some Wal-Mart staff stood by as the scene unfolded.
