A 20-year-old rapper from Pompano Beach is one of the most listened to artists in Bradenton and Sarasota.

His name is Dieuson Octave. But he’s better known as Kodak Black.

The New York Times rounded up YouTube data from January 2016 to April 2017 to see which 50 Billboard Top 100 artists — including Lady Gaga, Luke Bryan, Adele and Nicki Minaj — were most listened to in cities around the country. In its database, you can search for the top 10 songs from any city, neatly compiled into playlists.

Kodak Black songs ranked first on the Bradenton and Sarasota playlists. His home-shot music video for “There He Go” — a song he put out in December 2016 after he was released from the St. Lucie County jail on two drug charges, according to the Sun Sentinel — was a hit in Bradenton.

“Tunnel Vision” was most liked in Sarasota, which was put out in February 2017 and starts off with, “Li’l Kodak they don’t like to see you winnin’/They wanna see you in the penitentiary.”

Kodak’s run-ins with law enforcement had been extensively chronicled by Complex, which said that he was jailed again for violating his probation from a May 2016 false imprisonment conviction two weeks after “Tunnel Vision” was posted on his official YouTube channel. As of June 5, he was released early from his 364-day sentence.

Bradenton and Sarasota aren’t his only fans: Kodak is up for a “Best New Artist” award at the MTV Music Video Awards.

Other hits in Bradenton’s top 10 include “Too Young” by Post Malone, “Bring It Back” by Lil Yachty, “XO TOUR Llif3” by Lil Uzi Vert and Rihanna’s “Work.”

Just miles to the south, Sarasota listeners were also fans of Post Malone, Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert, but likened to Ariana Grande’s latest hits of “Side to Side” and “Dangerous Woman.”

While music videos have steadily fled TV over the years, they’re alive and well on YouTube.
