On impeachment, Trump and the Republicans are the true hypocrites | Letter to the editor
After having read Mark Mullen’s letter (“Democrats fail to make their case. It is time to end the impeachment ‘farce’), I have to admit that I was floored. No, flabbergasted is a better description.
A truly fair trial allows for the calling of witnesses and the presentation of documents and evidence. However, the Trump administration has blocked every House subpoena for pertinent witnesses and reams of documents, memos and emails. Mark calls the Democrats “hypocrites.”Why? For wanting this evidence?
President Trump has denied and blocked every subpoena that the House of Representatives has issued. Tell me why, Mark. Why would the president object to witnesses or documents that could exonerate him? Why would President Trump refuse to allow any evidence that would show him to be innocent? If these documents could exonerate the president, then why not release them? If the testimonies of such witnesses as John Bolton, Don McGahn, Mick Mulvaney, Rick Perry, etc., could exonerate the president, then why not allow them to testify under oath? Why are they trying to hide it? What are they trying to hide?
I think rather than call the Democrats hypocrites, perhaps you should turn around and look into the mirror and ask yourself: “How would I feel if this were Obama and the Republicans were the ones trying to get witnesses and documents?” I’ve a feeling you would feel quite differently under those circumstances.
