Democrats fail to make their case. It is time to end the impeachment ‘farce’ | Letter to the editor

House impeachment manager Adam Schiff was quoted several times leading up to the delivering of the articles to the Senate that we have “overwhelming evidence” of wrongdoing. One would have to ask then, if they have this overwhelming evidence, why would further witnesses and evidence need to be obtained?

Truth is they don’t have squat. They couldn’t wait for the courts to decide on Trump’s executive privilege so they hurried through two watered-down, ambiguous, non-criminal articles that could be applied to every president for the last 50 years and, here’s the dangerous part, to every president going forward. Then after the all-important “urgency” vote, waited almost a month to send them to the Senate. Who, besides me, sees the hypocritical irony here?

If that wasn’t enough, after the most lopsided, partisan kangaroo court investigation, NOW they what the Senate to be “fair?” I’m thinking that’s a 10 on the gall-o-meter.

In wanting more evidence and testimony, they have, in essence, admitted they, in fact, don’t have “overwhelming evidence” and now are banking on the Senate to finish the job they failed at doing. As such the Senate would, in reality, be assuming the investigative responsibility solely given to the House in formulating the articles. Is that their written Constitutional responsibility? Would further testimony do anything but prolong the obvious? If you answered “No” to either question then let’s put an end to this travesty.

The sensible public on both sides see through this farce and are eager to get this debacle over with. Minds were not changed either way. Adding additional time will not affect the final outcome as Trump will not be removed from office. Instead, it will further needlessly divide the country. It’s time to stick a fork in it and move on, enough is enough, let the jury vote.
