Bradenton under wind chill advisory. Warmer temperatures are coming.
A wind chill advisory will be in effect for the Bradenton area until 9 a.m. Wednesday, as the “feel-like” temperature was expected to drop into the 20s.
“A wind chill advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves and dress in layers,” the NWS reports.
The advisory was set to go into effect at 1 a.m. Wednesday.
As a result, the Salvation Army, at 1204 14th St. W., in Bradenton opened its cold weather shelter on Tuesday, as it did on Monday evening as the latest cold snap hit the area. Several shelters in Sarasota County also were set to open Tuesday night:
- The Salvation Army, 1051 Albee Farm Road, Venice.
- Salvation Army Center of Hope, 1400 10th St., Sarasota.
- New Hope Community Church, 5600 S. Biscayne Drive, North Port.
Temperatures on Tuesday reached 57 degrees, but the wind chill effect made it feel as low as 38 degrees early in the day with steady winds ranging between 10 and 17 mph and gusts as high as 23 mph.
Wednesday will remain cool with temperatures reaching 60 degrees and an overnight low of 50.
It warms up Thursday and Friday with temperatures in the mid 70s during the day and the high 50s in the overnight hours. Rain chances increase by Friday night to 30 percent as another cold front moves into the area leaving temperatures in the high 60s during the day and low 50s Saturday and Sunday.
