Bradenton and Sarasota open cold weather shelters as cold front approaches Manatee
Local cold weather shelters will open their doors Monday, prompted by an incoming cold front that will see the temperature drop as low as 38 degrees by Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Brian Payne, a program manager for Salvation Army of Manatee County, said the organization will try to accommodate as many people as possible on Monday and Tuesday due to the weather. The Salvation Army opens its cold weather shelter at 1204 14th St. W. in Bradenton when the temperature drops below 45 degrees, he said.
Sarasota County officials announced that the Salvation Army Center of Hope at 1400 10th St. W. in Sarasota will also be available for those in need of a cold weather shelter on Monday and Tuesday.
Temperatures of about 42 degrees are expected Monday night, according to the NWS. Tuesday is predicted to be another chilly day, with a high of 58 degrees and a low of 38 degrees.
According to the NWS, Thursday and Friday will be a bit warmer before another cold front cools the weather down again on Saturday.
