Dog with a ‘wiggle butt’ has spent nearly 300 days in shelter. He needs a home
A shelter dog has a “wiggle butt that just won’t quit” — and he needs a new home.
Barley the energetic pup has spent nearly 300 days waiting for a second chance in Florida.
“He loves people — and greets everyone with a wagging tail and happy energy,” his foster parent told the Humane Society of Pinellas. “He’s already a neighborhood favorite because of his friendly, outgoing nature. At home, Barley is the perfect mix of cuddly companion and playful sidekick.”
As of Oct. 20, Barley was up for adoption. He landed at the humane society in January after being transferred from another facility in the Tampa Bay area.
At one point, the mixed-breed pup was briefly adopted and returned “due to his activity level.” Now, he has spent months at the shelter, becoming its longest resident.
“He has been overlooked just because of his active lifestyle. He also needs an adopter that understands Barley will take some time” to go through an adjustment period, when dogs sometimes “act out in the form of ripping up toys, vocalizing, not going potty outside,” shelter spokesperson Peyton Davis told McClatchy News via email.
Barley is described as a “sweet,” adventurous 1-year-old pup. But be warned: he has strong “puppy eyes” that are hard to resist, the shelter wrote in a Facebook post and an online adoption profile.
“He also loves to run, whether on leash or off, and would thrive with an active person or family who can match his energy and give him the love he craves,” the foster parent wrote. “Overall, Barley is a loving, loyal, and joyful dog who’s ready to bring endless affection and fun into his forever home.”
The humane society is in Clearwater, west of Tampa. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at humanesocietyofpinellas.org.
