One dead, 5 wounded by gunfire at Florida apartment community, police say
One person was killed and five others were wounded by shots fired in the middle of the night at a Florida apartment complex, investigators say.
The six range in age from 17 to 22, the Tampa Police Department said in a news release.
The shootings happened around 1 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in the 6000 block of Woodville Street, police said in a news release. Maps show the area is within the Apartments at River Oaks community.
“When officers arrived, they found three people who had been shot. A 21-year-old male and 19-year-old male were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 17-year-old male was transported in critical condition and later died from his injuries,” police said.
“Three additional adult males aged 22, 21, and 19 were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries sustained in the shooting.”
The teen who died has been identified as Tariq De’Shawn Marshall, officials said. Identities of the other five people have not been released.
A preliminary investigation indicates they were outside when the shots were fired, and the violence “stemmed from a previous dispute,” police said.
Details of a suspect have not been released.
“No family should have to endure this kind of pain. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this senseless gun violence,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a release.
“Our detectives are working diligently to identify and bring those responsible to justice. We need the community’s help. If you saw something, heard something, or know something, come forward. Your information could be the key to giving these families the justice they deserve.”
