‘Inseparable’ shelter dogs needed a home. Then woman met the pair and ‘fell in love’
Two Florida shelter dogs with a close bond needed a home — then a woman met them and “fell in love.”
Now, canine friends Hilda and Zelda are getting a second chance — together.
“We are never going to forget walking the girls out of our doors, and into their new lives,” Orange County Animal Services wrote Nov. 21 in a Facebook post. “Zelda and Hilda were seen, and now, together, they’re going home.”
The woman adopted Hilda and Zelda, ending a journey that started more than one month earlier. The two arrived at animal services after they were found “roaming around a neighborhood.” Though the shelter didn’t know how they ended up loose, workers soon discovered the two were “inseparable.”
“They snuggle on their bed together,” animal services wrote Oct. 17 on Facebook. “They never fight over meals and treats. And more than anything, they love being outside in the sun, together. We know it’s a lot to ask of anyone, adopting two senior dogs. But Zelda and Hilda were in rough shape when they got here, and though we are caring for all their ailments, time has taken its toll.”
Hilda and Zelda, described as “sweet and affectionate” pups in need of extra care, are believed to be 8 to 10 years old. The shelter hoped the two would find a home where they could “grow old with one another.”
As time passed, animal services turned to TV station WKMG to spread the word about the dog pair. A viewer saw a teaser about the pups and visited the shelter while an anchor was live on air.
“She told us she had seen them on the news the day before, and then today on the live segment, and she just knew she had to come and see them in person,” the shelter wrote in its Nov. 21 post. “And when she did meet them, she fell in love.”
The shelter also shared the good news that Hilda and Zelda were adopted, sparking several emotional comments on social media. A heartwarming video shows the two eagerly walking to their owner’s car as they kicked off their next chapter.
“This story surprised us, and touched us all,” the shelter wrote.
Orange County Animal Services, located in Orlando, didn’t share additional information with McClatchy News on Nov. 22 or 25.
