A “loving” dog with brain trauma needed a home — then came good news.

“We feel that every dog no matter what their problem is adoptable,” Tricia Robles, founder of the Florida Poodle Rescue, told McClatchy News in a Nov. 14 email. “She was lucky enough to have this lovely woman who was not deterred by her limitations and felt like that they could have a great life together.”

Vivian’s heartwarming adoption ended a journey that started in Georgia. The pup was found as a stray in the Atlanta area before being transferred to the Florida-based animal rescue.

“When we first got her she had pneumonia so we had to treat that,” Robles wrote. “And we knew there was a neurological deficit but felt like she needed to have a chance to recover if it was possible.”

The rescue in a Facebook post said it took Vivian to a specialist and discovered “she had brain trauma that likely stemmed from being kicked in the head.” She’s expected to take medication for the rest of her life.

Over time, Vivian became known as a “loving” young standard poodle. Her “sweet personality” and playful side recently started to emerge.

As Vivian waited for a second chance, a woman felt drawn to her and applied for adoption. “Undeterred by her diagnosis,” the woman eventually took Vivian home, starting her next chapter.

“Now called Brooke, she will live her life on a farm with horses and cows and TLC,” the shelter wrote. “Brooke will never again worry about where her next meal will come from, or if anyone will hurt her.”

The Florida Poodle Rescue has a presence in St. Petersburg, near Tampa.
